Did You Know There are Compulsory Attendance Laws in Arkansas?

All states have requirements for school age children to attend school whether it is a private, religious, home school or public school. In Arkansas, children ages five to seventeen are required to attend school. There are only a few exceptions to this rule (Ark.Code §6-18-201 ).

One of the requirements is that the parent/guardian "shall enroll the child in and ensure the attendance at the public, private or parochial school. ... (Ark.Code §6-18-210).

In Mount Ida Schools, we believe that attendance not only makes a difference in a child's academic career but has other opportunities for students to engage in extracurricular activities, build relationships with their peers and learn how to navigate the social and emotional skills that they will use throughout their lives.

Following Arkansas' compulsory attendance law by regularly attending school, prepares a child for life. Our lives, as we know it, revolve around schedules. Whether it is a job, providing food and other things for your family, attending church services, or going to your child's softball game are all commitments of time and dedication. Attending school is no different. Regularly attending mandatory attendance prepares our children for life expectations.

At Mount Ida Schools, we believe that our students need to attend school and our parents and community support the compulsory attendance laws. Please, make every effort to ensure your child(ren) is at school no later than 7:55 AM. Bobby Barrett Elementary School opens the doors at 7:40 AM and Mount Ida High School opens the doors at 7:30 AM. We also serve a hot or cold breakfast to jump start their day.
We believe that the strength of our schools comes from the support from our parents and community. We are asking for your help with striving for 96% attendance on both campuses.
